YES!!!!!!!!

Guess who slept through the night and is still sleeping right now? That's right, our boy Kellen! He's been sleeping since 9:30pm last night!! So why am I up??? I'm just so shocked, I feel like I'm now waiting for him to get up - oh and I've checked to make sure he's still breathing at least a few times now! Let's hope this lasts...and we can both get more sleep!

Freaking Vitamins!

Errr...those vitamin drops have caused our family nothing but trouble! They give our boy bad poop and half the time they make him throw up - I'm talking 30 seconds after we give them to him, he's hurling. And if he doesn't puke 'em up, then he spits half of them out anyway! So...this morning I was talking to Andi and she suggested that we give them to him in smaller doses - half in the morning and half in the night. Great idea...so I tried that this morning and he tolerated the half dose much better. BUT...I must have gotten distracted because this afternoon after a day of shopping, we got home and Kellen was crying because he was starving. In my rush to get him changed out of his wet diaper and into the nursing chair to feed him, I knocked the chair into the side table - where the vitamins were sitting and they fell over and the whole freaking bottle of vitamins spilled out onto the chair and the carpet!! ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...do you remember that earlier post where I said they looked and smelled disgusting? Dark green liquid all over the carpet and a screaming, hungry baby does not make for a happy mama! What do I do, feed the boy or clean the carpet? I quickly blotted what I could, then fed Kellen enough to settle him down and went back to cleaning. I swear, I've cleaned it now at least five times and his room still smells of yucky vitamins!

In other news...Kellen is now in a size 2 diaper - it kinda made me sad to have to buy the next size up! Oh and he took a bit of a bottle from me as well!

Such a sweet boy - a few snuggles with him and you forget all about the vitamin disaster (that is until you walk into his room and take a sniff...but he does make everything all right!)!

A message from the boy...

Family Fun!

This week we started and ended with some fun visits with Aaron's side of the family~
On Monday, we went with Grandma Jan up to the 'Couv to visit Kellen's Great Grandparents. He was a show off and after I told them how he didn't enjoy tummy time, he happily played on his tummy for quite some time!

Friday, cousins Eli, Sheryl and Daniel stopped in Portland for a visit as they were driving through to the beach. Everyone was excited to see them, so we all met up at Grams' for lunch. Daniel is just a cutie AND he's a big walker now! It's crazy for us to think that in just 10 months Kellen will be that big and possibly walking - they just develop so fast! It wasn't easy getting a 1 year old and a 2 month old together for a picture, but we were able to get one (not sure who they are both looking up at!). How cute are these two??!!

Broken Arm

No...not Kellen, but our nephew Tylre. He broke his radius and ulna bones skateboarding on Saturday and when he got his cast on, his doctor suggested that he stay home to rest. Since his mom had to go to work, we got to hang out! We used to spend a lot more time with him, but now that he's 11 and has much better things to do than hang out with his "old" aunt and uncle...we don't get to see him quite as much. I was cool enough to sign his cast - even got to be first! Kellen also signed it - in the form of a line. Tylre is a good big cousin and Kellen seems to love him - he always has a great big smile for him!

Bottle Wars and Vitamin Poop

Upon the advice of our pediatrician, we were waiting to introduce a bottle to Kellen until he was about 3 months old - something about he's such a fast eater, if he gets a bottle he might become lazy and refuse the boob. After a visit to the lactation consultant around Week 7, she advised us to try giving him a bottle right away because as they get older, they might become stubborn and refuse the bottle. So...fearful of that (!) we attempted to give him a bottle that night and it appeared that we may have missed that ideal window (4-6 weeks...thank you very much, pediatrician!) of introducing the bottle. He gave us the worst looks, played around with that nipple and let any milk that did get into his mouth run right out. We saw this was going to be a challenge! Fearful of the thought of him never taking a bottle, I thought that maybe he just didn't like that kind of bottle nipple and went out to get others - in fact, we have about 6 different kind of bottles in the house right now! Nope - didn't like any of those. I asked for help at the Baby and Me group we go to and everyone said that I needed to leave the house - babies are so smart that if they can smell their mom in the house, they will often refuse initially because why would they take it from the bottle when they could get it from the source? Yesterday I left Aaron and Kellen with a bottle of freshly pumped milk and went off to see Juno with some friends. As soon as the movie got out (it was only an hour and a half!) I called Aaron and could hear Kellen crying - but Aaron assured me that he had just woke up and he was just getting the bottle ready for the attempt and told me not to come home yet. I was a bit stressed...but not more than five minutes later he called back and I could hear the sound of Kellen sucking away at the bottle!! What a relief! Our boy finally took a bottle! We'll need to keep at it every few days and hopefully eventually I won't have to leave the house in order for it to happen - but if that is what it takes, I can handle that!

Oh and vitamin poop - wow! We just started giving Kellen some liquid vitamins - Tri - Vi -Sol (which smell and look disgusting). So go figure...these nasty vitamins make Kellen's poop smell and look disgusting - sorry for the description, but we're talking dark green, almost black poops. You're probably thinking, doesn't poop already smell and look disgusting - well, yes - but these vitamins take it to another level!

And this my friends is what my life has evolved to - bottle wars and vitamin poop!

2 months old today and 9 weeks old tomorrow!

It was really funny to me that as soon as I became pregnant everything was suddenly measured in weeks - the pregnancy is 40 weeks, which is closer to 10 months than 9 months...but who's counting! Each day really did matter to me - my week started on Thursday, in case you were wondering. Once your baby is born you still count in weeks, but you also want to recognize the day they were born on by counting months...so we just do both! February 5th marks Kellen's two month "birthday" and Wednesday he'll have been in our world for 9 weeks. It's all pretty exciting - I just wonder when do you stop counting those weeks?! Perhaps when it's too much to actually remember! Anyway, I'm sure you don't come here for this...it's all about the pictures, right?

Here's our big boy - Mr. Smiley - today on his two month, one day shy of 9 weeks "birthday" (that's why you come here anyway, right?)!!

Kellen's First Beach Trip

This weekend we braved the wind and rain and ventured over to the coast for the first time with Kellen. Let me tell you, we've aleady discovered that our house is suddenly too small with one small infant and all the gear they come with - but packing up for a short weekend away is quite a production! The boy needs a lot of things - portable crib, activity mat, diapers, wipes, plenty of changes of clothes, baby bjorn, hats, sound machine, boppy, books...the list goes on! There was just enough room in the car for us to each have a small bag and for us all to fit in. Anyway, we made it down for a weekend of warm fires, relaxing on the couch, one rainy walk to the coffee shop and a quick jaunt on the beach in the 10 minutes of sunny (make that non-rainy) weather while we were there. We hope there will be many more beach weekends to come this year!
Here are some pictures of our weekend:
